Our school does an amazing fundraiser to raise money so that we can purchase apps for our iPads. Each Country Fresh Caramel apple made by Martinson's Ranch Chocolates, is worth $5 but they feed two people. The order forms , which are a very bright orange, can keep track of friends and family that would like an apple. The orders are due 10/12 and the apples will be delivered on Halloween.
Novels-
I am so excited that your kids love reading! I struggled when I was in elementary school and didn't find an appreciation for reading until I was older. You little ones are definitely not like me . Please read below on what each grade level will be doing with their novels.
5th Grade Novel-
5th grade has had a lot of practice with reading novels in 4th grade. I expect more in-depth thinking and connections to be made when reading the book Crispin, and any novel we do together. To do that, I have a comprehension page that I will give them on Monday and they have the whole week to complete it at their own pace. I give them enough time during class; however, I know some students really like doing their reading at home and that is fine with me. It is 100% up to them, but when their pages are due, so will the comprehension pages. Below is an example of what they will look like.
I was so impressed by the willingness for 4th grade to start their novels. They asked me probably 292384 times and I caved in. They have enough time to finish all of their reading work in class; however, if they choose to do their "Reading Menu's" at home, that is up to them. How the reading menus work, is they will choose 4 squares to complete. In their reading notebooks ,they will write the answers in complete sentences, to the whichever questions 4 questions they choose. They will do their first reading menu with me so they will have a very clear expectation of what I am looking for.
