During PE on 12/1 the kids will be doing disco bowling! It is so fun and always a blast! The kids get to bring in a drink and snack and bowl with disco lights on in the gym . The only rule is that the kids bring in a drink that has a screw top to it. That means no cans or drinks that need straws and can not be closed. This just eliminates the chance of spills while they are bowling. They also get to bring in a snack to eat when bowling. She just asks that the snack is not a family size bag of chips. This truly is a blast and the kids are over excited for Friday.
NWEA Testing 12/ 6-8th
We are doing our winter testing on December 6-8th. We are testing right away at 8:30 so PLEASE make sure they are here on time, eat a big breakfast and have a good night sleep. I also allow them to chew gum during testing time so if they have a specific gum they like, they can bring it on those days.
What we are learning in the next two weeks:
Math- We officially are into multi-digit multiplication. They are learning strategies to help break down the numbers to understand better. They will be learning the distributive property and the expanded form .
Distributive Property- 9 x 13 can be (9 x 5) + (9 x 8) We take 13 and break it into smaller numbers that are easier then add them together .
Expanded Form- 9 x 123 = (9 x 100) + (9 x 20) + (9 x 3) = The kids normally LOVE this strategy because they multiply by lots of "o"s then add them up. It is quick and easy :)
Reading- Using their visualizations to make a chapter book come to life. They also will be learning why an author writes their story . Is it entertain, persuade or inform us of something.
Language- Combining sentences to avoid run-ons
Writing - Finishing their Water Globe Escape stories and then we will write a silly narrative on how to save Santa
Social Studies- Beginning our unit on Native Americans studies and why its important to learn about their nations.
Science- We will spend the next 2 weeks on how to read a weather map and what the symbols mean.
